Tips and Tricks
Creating this holiday edible art isn’t difficult – but there are a few tips to remember. Here are some ideas to consider when compiling all the ingredients into the shape of a snowman.
- Rinse & Dry: Be sure to wash off the fruits to clean them well, and ensure they are dry before adding them to the board. Excess water will cause the cheese to become soggy, making it quite a messy look.
- Cutting Board: Use a board made of nice wood, such as Acacia wood, for the presentation. The darker coloring of the board will help the lighter coloring of the cheeses stand out.
- Prep in Advance: Some steps can be done in advance to save you time on the day of your party or event. Cleaning all the fruit to ensure it’s ready to go is a step that can be done anytime. You can then store the clean fruit in an airtight container in the fridge until you are ready to assemble.
Ingredients Needed for Snowman Cheese Board
Gather the following ingredients to give your holiday appetizer life:
- hard or semi-hard round cheese, cut into 3 circles
- 1 cup mozzarella balls
- 2-3 cheddar sandwich slices
- 1 cup popcorn
- 1 pack chocolate-covered sticks
- 1 pomegranate, seeded
- 1 cup any crackers
- 1 cup blueberries, washed
- 1 cup marshmallows
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp caramel
- 1/2 cup corn sticks
- 2 tbsp festive sprinkles, 3 kinds (2 tbsp each)
Step-by-Step Instructions with Pictures
1. Using round bowls and glasses, cut out three circles of cheese of varying diameters. Arrange the three circles of cheese in the middle of a large cutting board to form a snowman as shown in the picture below.
2. Put the sprinkles, honey, and caramel into four small bowls and place them in four areas surrounding the circles of cheese.
3. Use a star cookie cutter to cut star shapes from the cheddar cheese slices.
4. Place the blueberries and pomegranate seeds around the head of the snowman, add the cheese stars to resemble a starry sky.
5. Use 2 blueberries for the eyes, pomegranate seeds for the mouth and cheese for the nose.
5. Place a piece of cracker on top of the snowman for the snowman’s hat, and add two chocolate-covered pretzel sticks for the arms.
6. Fill in the space on the board with the rest of the ingredients. Any ingredients left can be added to any open areas of the board.
7. To achieve a bucket look, add halved chocolate-covered sticks on top of the hat cracker.
8. Serve and wow everyone with this creative holiday appetizer!

Variations
Versatility is a huge bonus of this recipe. Feel free to add, change, remove, alter, and make this cheese board uniquely your own.
- Cheeses: Add various types of cheeses to this board. Other options could include spreadable goat cheese as well as white cheddar.
- Meats: Turn this into a snowman charcuterie board by adding cured meats.
- Substitutes: Use green olives and make a mini Christmas tree, or add macadamia nuts to look like snowballs. You can dice a baby carrot for the nose or use bell peppers for the smile. Salami sticks or red beet crackers would make great arms, and a hat topper on the snowman’s head would add protein.
- Additional Ingredients: There will be plenty of room on the board for holiday staples like Ritz snowflake crackers, a small dish of homemade jam, or cranberry sauce. Fill the spaces with tasty bites.
How to Store
For any leftovers, follow these simple tips for the best results:
- Refrigeration: Be sure to keep the cheese stored in the fridge in an airtight container.
- Covering: Cover the cheese board with plastic wrap or aluminum foil for safe keeping and to preserve the freshness of the remaining ingredients.
- Room Temperature Items: Fresh fruit can be stored at room temperature or in the fridge.
