Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Brown the ground beef in a skillet, breaking it up as it cooks until it’s no longer pink.
1 lb ground beef
Peel and slice the potatoes.
4 medium potatoes
In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and seasonings.
10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup milk, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1/4 tsp salt
Mix until smooth and fully combined.
Grease the 8x8-inch casserole dish.
Layer half of the potatoes in the casserole dish.
Top with half of the cooked beef.
Pour half of the sauce over the beef.
Sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
8 oz cheddar cheese
Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, sauce, and cheese.
Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake 30 more minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.
