Ingredients Needed for a Halloween Snack Board
- 10 mini powdered donuts
- 1 cup blueberries
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- 1 package of Rolo candies, unwrapped
- 2 cups popcorn
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
Step-by-Step Preparation With Pictures
1. Place the powdered donuts on a charcuterie board, wooden cutting board, or large platter as markers for where you want the top and base of your skull to be.
2. Place one donut on each side where you want the cheekbones of the skull to be.
3. Put the blueberries on where the eyes should be, making them look as circular as possible.
4. Lay out the chocolate chips in a triangle shape to form the nose.
5. Add the unwrapped rolos where the mouth of the skull should be.
6. Encircle one blueberry eye and top of the nose with mini marshmallows.
7. Fill in the top of the other blueberry eye with a mixture of white chocolate chips and mini marshmallows.
8. Add the popcorn to form the shape of the bottom half of the skull face and around the rolos to form the mouth.
9. Either leave the bottom donuts as the base of the skull or remove them.
10. If desired, you can add decorations like plastic spiders, candy corn, and powdered donuts around the edges of the skull.
Serving And Presentation
Want to wow your guests and make this Halloween snack board the highlight of your party? Here’s a couple of ways to make it look even scarier:
- Use a Spooky Backdrop: Prep up your skull snack board on a season-appropriate (or just plain black) tablecloth, and use a bunch of festive Halloween decorations to make your party come alive (or look spooktacular!)
- Add Some Lighting: To intensify the scary vibes, illuminate your Halloween snack board by setting up small LED lights or lighting black candles around it.
- Pair the Snack Board with Other Spooky Treats: Reinforce the Halloween theme by serving other delicious spooky snacks! This snack board will look fabulous next to ghost strawberries or graveyard dirt cups. You can also serve other Halloween candies like candy eyeballs, banana ghosts, or Halloween Oreos.
- Use Themed Supplies: Provide guests with Halloween-themed paper plates, table napkins, and utensils that they can use for the party.
- Add Snacks Around the Skull: After building the skull, surround it with a variety of snacks, such as crackers, stick pretzels, fresh veggies (like celery sticks), fresh fruit (like apple slices, strawberries, or oranges), cookies, or even meat like salami!
Variation Ideas
Don’t be afraid to play around and experiment with the ingredients when making your Halloween charcuterie board! It’s part of what makes assembling charcuterie boards so fun, after all. Here are a couple of ideas to get you started:
- Add More White Ingredients: Don’t feel like you have to use mini marshmallows or powdered donuts for this snack board! You can use any white-colored snack such as yogurt-covered pretzels, nuts, or even mints.
- Use Other Dark Fruits: Use your favorite dark-colored fruit to fill the eyes, nose, and mouth! Blackberries, black grapes, or raisins, as well as blueberries or mini chocolate chips, make awesome ingredients.
- Add Cheese Slices and Black Olives: Swap out the marshmallows and popcorn and use white cheese such as string cheese, Brie cheese, and mozzarella balls (similar to what I used to make a snowman cheese board.) You can also use olives for the eyes, nose, or mouth if you prefer!
Tips For Success
- Keep It Fresh: As much as possible, assemble the skull snack board close to serving time. This way, the ingredients look beautiful and are still crunchy – particularly the popcorn!
- Use Fresh Ingredients: For best results, always use the freshest ingredients – especially the fruits!
- Estimate How Many Guests You’ll Have: It’s good to estimate how many guests you’ll serve this Halloween snack board to. This way, you’ll know how big a board you need to use or if you need to make a second set!
Storage
Got leftover treats from your Halloween snack board? Store the ingredients like candies, fruits, and chocolates separately in airtight containers, then keep them in the fridge.
As for popcorn, it can get stale really fast if you don’t store it properly. Use either an airtight container or a sealable plastic bag, fill them with popcorn so there won’t be much air inside, and then store them at room temperature.
One Last Thing
Halloween is the perfect occasion to get creative with making delicious spreads and charcuterie boards! To get into the spooky vibes this season, create a fun Halloween snack board for your next get-together with family and friends.
Using a couple of white and black treats can help you create a creepy masterpiece that makes for the perfect conversation starter and snack station for all your guests. You can even personalize this skull snack board further by using your favorite ingredients and serving it with various Halloween decorations and themed snacks!
So embrace the eerie atmosphere and have fun with your Halloween snack board!
