Welcome to My First Blog Post: Setting Your Child up for the Best Start Possible
First things first: WELCOME!
This is my brand new blog for you, an overwhelmed first-time mom. How do I know you are overwhelmed? Well, every first-time mom gets overwhelmed to some extent with this new world opened up in front of her. The good news is you are not the first and you are not the last, so don’t worry you’ll make it through :).
I won’t go into the specifics of exactly who I am and what you can find here, you are welcome to check my About me page. But I’d like to start my first post with telling you WHY you might feel more confident in what you are doing if you always have me by your side 🙂 Just kidding, I am not actually coming to stay with you. I know you already need to get used to another new human being that has just entered your life to change it forever. What I mean is that by providing you with the right resources I will try to help you focus on the main things that your baby needs for healthy development while making the journey joyful for yourself.
From a Full-Time Mom to a Blogger
I can’t even start explaining how thrilled I am that my first blog post is finally coming to fruition. It’s been over two years (since the first day I learned I was pregnant) that my life has completely evolved around my son. And I still just cannot get my mind off of him and everything that is about him. All I’ve been recently reading, watching, talking about is child related. So the idea of having my own blog where I can freely write about my favorite topic (instead of boring everyone around) has been on my mind for quite some time. And here I am carving out an hour here and there – mostly early in the morning before my son wakes up, during his nap time and then after he goes to bed – to put together all the resources that I hope you will benefit from.
Transitioning to a full-time mom was not an easy decision for me. Being in the middle of a good career, I was planning to go back to work once my maternity leave had ended. That day had come when my precious bundle of joy was just 4 months old. I know, right! Crazy!! What kind of a country sends a mother back to work when her baby is only 4 months old? United States of America – my friends. And although there is so much greatness about the US, it is one of the worst countries in the world when it comes to maternity/paternity leave. Well but that’s a topic for another post. To get back to the point, I realized that I couldn’t leave my baby when he was still so small and needed me the most.
Besides, among the numerous books on how to raise a child, I’d been reading at that time I came across a book called “Kindergarten is too late!” (or “After three it’s too late!”) by Japanese author Masaru Ibuka. Ibuka was an electronics engineer who co-founded Sony. Someone who could have been regarded as a genius himself, at the pick of his career wrote this book which argues that most parents start educating their children after 3 years old when it is actually too late. The most significant human learning happens in the first 3 years of life and that’s when parents’ role is so important. I will certainly reflect more on all of this in my future posts, as Ibuka’s main ideas greatly resonated with me and became another reason why I dedicated my full time to my son’s early development; and subsequently starting this blog.
Why You Might Find Useful Reading My Blog
When it comes to my son I am very selective in what I rely on as a trustworthy source. Official publications by the World Health Organization, American Academy of Pediatrics, USDA and of course my pediatrician are my main go to resources to filter concerns, questions, to get help and guidance. And I have to admit, quite often it takes so much time to find the right information when you are bombarded from all sides with contradicting messages. I know it can be confusing, I know it can be overwhelming and I know it can be very frustrating. I don’t want you to feel that way. I want you to have the right information at your fingertips and to feel confident in applying it. This is what I am here to help you with. I know a big statement, ha!
Let’s see how it goes, but I do hope this blog will become a place for a lot of fun things! I am so looking forward to sharing my parenting journey with you. And because I am so new at blogging, it will be a learning curve for me for sure. I’d love any and all input, so please let me know in the comments if there’s something you’d like to see here.
Once again, let’s stay overwhelmed together!
