Variation Ideas
- Other Types of Meat: Swap out the ground chicken for different forms of chicken such as chicken breast, rotisserie chicken, or pre-cooked chicken.
You can also try ground turkey or ground beef. Thai shrimp wraps are also our family’s favorite. - Add Fresh Vegetables: Add crunchy veggies such as red bell peppers, green cabbage, or water chestnuts. Corn would also complement the taste of spicy Thai sauce perfectly – make some using this grilled corn recipe and add to the chicken mixture.
- Try a Different Sauce: Make a spicy peanut sauce by adding chili sauce or you can try using a different sauce such as fish sauce, coconut aminos, hoisin sauce, chili garlic sauce, or a variation of an Asian sauce.
- Pair with a Side: Pair these delicious lettuce cups with sides such as stuffed mushrooms, pickled vegetables, parmesan crusted potatoes, zucchini chips, or a cabbage salad.
- Make it Vegetarian or Vegan: Try making tofu lettuce wraps or substituting ground chicken for shiitake mushrooms.
- Make it Keto: Make these chicken lettuce wraps with peanut sauce a low carb option by using almond butter in place of peanut butter, sweeteners in place of honey, and cauliflower rice or quinoa in place of brown rice.
Tips for Preparing Lettuce Wraps with Peanut Sauce
- Use Butter Lettuce: While most types of lettuce will work, butter lettuce is best for lettuce wraps.
You can also try romaine lettuce or any other crisp lettuce variation. - Prepping Lettuce: You don’t need to cut lettuce, just gently separate the leaves, wash and dry them with a towel.
- Keeping Your Lettuce Crisp: If you aren’t making your Thai lettuce wraps right away, store your lettuce in an airtight container with a paper towel.
This will minimize moisture as well allowing optimal airflow within the container.
Storage
- Storage: Thai chicken wraps with peanut sauce are so good that they usually don’t have leftovers.
In the case that you do, the chicken mixture will last 2-3 days in an airtight container in the fridge.
I suggest waiting until you’re ready to eat before adding to your lettuce leaves. - Make Ahead: If you want to make these ahead of time to enjoy the next day, you can make the chicken mixture and then reheat it when you’re ready to eat.

Made this this weekend and it was such a hit! I used ground turkey as that is what I had on hand, but it couldn’t be easier. My husband and I work split shifts, so it was so nice to cook this up for myself and the kids and then my husband was able to reheat the filling and make his lettuce wraps fresh when he got home. Will definitely make again!! Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing with me, Brooklyn! I’m so glad you liked the wraps, I hope your husband liked them too! With Thanksgiving coming, we’ll all have lots of leftover turkey, so this is certainly a great way to use that turkey 🙂
